Snow Play Sunday

There is a winter phenomenon that transends generations!
1987
Yes that's me, age 7. Don't worry, the teeth grew back.

2009

It's cold. It's white. It's....
"What are those children trapped inside?" you might say.

Step aside, Reindeer Snowman Guard ... and reveal your secret!

--------

Snow Forts with Grandpa G!!!

Well, it wasn't always "Grandpa" G!

Grandpa G builds the best snow forts!
Watch and learn! :)

First, you have to wait for the temperature to be around 32 degrees!
Too warm and they melt. Too cold, they won't pack.

Then you need a couple of big buckets and a shovel.
Think icy cold sandcastle!

A couple of strapping young lads...those buckets are heavy!

And a Princess to watch the boys do all the work.

A sheet on the top...

...and...

Snow Fort!

Oh, and don't forget windows.
You need a lookout to spot intruders.

And for good photo ops too!

Oh, and last but not least...
Every fort needs an arsenal of snowballs!
Once they sit for a day, they turn into ice balls. Then they're really great for some tooth-knockin'-out fun!
Back in the day, when it would snow a whole lot, we would make two forts and launch an all out war between opposing armies.
Grandpa G did in fact get his teeth knocked out in the snow once...but not by us!

Thanks for always playing with us Grandpa!!!
Then and now!

Is your Dad making a snow angle or collapsing from all that hard work? lol. Cute pictures! That is a cool snow fort! My sis & I use to make these when we were young, so much fun! That's a great idea to use buckets.
