"Grid"morning!

In our house, you never can tell who's going to be staring back at you when you open your eyes in the morning. This (Sunday) morning....

It was her.
Uhhh....hmm.
O-kay.
And then it all made sense.
Little did I know, she had been sucked into...

THE GRID!
(For those of you who are now totally lost, Grandpa G and J took the boys to see the movie Tron Legacy in the movie theater for the umpteenth time yesterday. J remembers watching the original when it came out in 1982. And it's become quite the favorite cinematic experience around here!)

I should note: Younger Brother and Big Sis also brought with them Raisin Bran and orange juice for me. So I gather this was a dinner (er breakfast) theater of sorts.

Program!

Nooo, I'll save you!

Uh oh, too bad for her.
Program!

Deresolution Complete.

Bravo, bravo!
Those quiet mornings in days of old of getting to sleep in are surely overrated compared to this!

Auntie D's Lap Full Of Love

It's a tradition that the whole family looks forward to...Thursday evening visits from Auntie D! I keep telling her that one of these times I need to videotape the kids' happy squeals when I announce that she's coming over.

There's usually a dinnertime struggle over who she sits by, and who got to sit next to her last time. But tonight it was a competition for lap space. There were an average of three of them parked there at any given time.

Sometimes more.

Sometimes more than that!
(The recliner reclined rapidly with the momentum of number 5 joining the pile.)

Aww, that's love!
:)
Thanks for always making time to come see us, Aunt D!

Literal Translation

I gave Younger Brother a Language Arts assignment during school today, and explained that he needed to read the sentences, then plug in the correct words to complete the story...

When I checked his progress a minute later, I discovered that he did, in fact,

plug them in.

Grandpified!

4 out of 5 ways to tell that my children have had a weekend filled with back-to-back grandparent fun...

I have a feeling the Grandma and Grandpas involved were able to share in this sentiment.

Olympics 2024

Yesterday was the first time that a couple of the kids have left the house in two weeks! Thankfully, everyone got healthy again just in time for Little Sis to participate in her favorite extra curricular activity. She loves to go to gymnastics! Thanks for sending her, Grandpa G! Here are some pictures of your budding little olympian in action...

6 and 1

That would be, Influenza 6 - M Family 1!
*
It has been quite a week here on the home front!
Biggest Brother came home from school with a terrible cough on Friday.
As the weekend passed and the week began, the kids were dropping one by one. And by Tuesday, all five children (and me) had the full blown flu.
*
This one was particularly nasty; fever, terrible headache, chills, body aches, congestion, and of course the community favorite when managing a house full of small children...vomiting.
Tuesday just might be the most challenging day of group illness I have had to date. I begged J to call of work! But he couldn't.
By yesterday, the oldest three had started to turn the corner, and I was able to take a break from the continuous 5 gallon bucket sprints up and down the stairs, to snap a few pictures of my group on the mend.

"Boy Camp."
Little Sis and Princess A did not get sick initially, so I gated off the boys' room and made it the designated "hot zone."
*
Younger Brother has asthma. So the flu is a particularly big deal for him. Once they tested him and determined it was true Influenza A, we were able to get him on Tamiflu early enough to help. And other than feeling crummy, he did not have any complications, praise God!

"Girl Camp."
I won't lie. I was feeling a bit envious. Mama's don't get to curl up in blankets and lay on the couch when they're sick.
Perhaps those many months of morning sickness serve as conditioning to operate under these circumstances.
And I'm also thankful that, while he couldn't call off, J is extremely helpful with getting up with the kids at night! So Princess A and I did get to sleep for a bit.

Little Sis and Princess A are the most recently ill. But our wonderful Pediatrician had mercy on us, and called in Tamiflu ahead of time to treat them early just as a precaution. So even though they still got sick, it doesn't seem to be hitting them nearly as hard.

Princess A's biggest trouble is that she can't breathe.
She doesn't feel good, so she wants to nurse.
And it's awfully hard to nurse when your nose is boogered up!
I'm going to put the humidifier in her room to help that hopefully.
*
Big Sis looked so pitiful.
She really does handle being sick with an incredible amount of grace though. At one point, her fever was 104.2 even with Ibuprofen. And she was such a trooper! It's much better now, but her cheeks are still rosey pink. I'm pretty sure she likes that part.
*
So that's what's been going on here for the last 6 days. I decided to be nice and post sweet kid pics rather than nitty gritty Lysol canisters, buckets, haven't gotten to shower in 48 hrs pics. But, you get the point. :)
Moral of the story: I think we won't be waiting so late to get our flu shots next year!

Christmas Vacation part.1

Okay, here we go! I finally got a minute to go back through all of the pictures from the past two...well, longer than two now...weeks of Christmas vacation. I've decided they're too much fun not to post even though it is January. So, part one of a great big Christmastime recap comin' right up......

First, there were the preparations.
Grandma and Grandpa M invited the kids over to decorate their tree...and anything else to which one could affix bows.

Aww, it's carbon dating, Little Sis style.
You can guestimate how old these pictures are based on the fact that she still has two front teeth!
To be specific, I believe this was tooth-knocking-out eve.

Younger Brother wrapped the tree up with beads in the spirit of an evergreen straight jacket.

Princess A was noticeably proud to command the region beneath the tree.

I'm not sure how "Hoot" hitched a ride to Grandma and Grandpa's. But he was included in the decorating too.

(I know I'm biased, but I think she's beautiful.)

Behold, the finished product!

It was inspiring...

...thought provoking...

...karate-chopping-Hoot worthy!

And then it was time for Veggie Tales.

(I think she's beautiful too.)
(For the record, I'm biased x5)
But as I was saying -
It was time for Veggie Tales...
*
...and grapes with Grandpa.

...and cuddles with Grandma.

...and that infamous group photo that really never goes as planned!

...and siblings that are hilarious.

Before we left, I took a quick inventory of all of the adornments that had been distributed.
There were little red bows on as far as the eye could see!
...on the refrigerator...

...on the fan...

...on the cabinets...
Grandma told me later that she found a bow tied around her dustpan!
:)
The kids were pretty much still full of energy when I herded them out the door, way past their bedtimes, a little after 11PM!
Grandpa and Grandma on the other hand...
